Only 16% of the milk cartons in the USA are recycled, with the EU tackling 49% of them. To solve this issue, Pushan Panda created a sustainable packaging design of a milk carton, that is meant to be peeled open when empty, splitting the product into 2 components: the exterior part being a recyclable carton and the internal one being the reusable plastic bladder.

The UN reports that 331 million tonnes of plastic waste are annually produced, with 60% of the production of plastic since the early 50s being landfilled or thrown outdoors, causing them to amass over time towards a significant 9.5 million tonnes of discarded plastic, further impacting the environment in a severe way. Notplas goal is to tackle this issue by introducing their new plastic solution, as it uses seaweed to challenge the use of these traditional materials.

The reason Notplas uses seaweed as their main component to create this product is due to it being one of the planet's most abundant biomass sources, with seaweed growing at a rate of up to one metre per day, requiring no fertiliser or freshwater but actively sequestering carbon dioxide.

In addition seaweed is a good replacement to plastic because of it containing natural building blocks, giving it structure and rigidities underwater. With these building blocks combined with plant and mineral extracts, it makes the material have similar properties to plastic but at the same time with Notpla not being plastic. This is because it can be easily eaten by any organism.
